Occasionally, the chime comes when I open the door after parking and locking
it. I didn't leave the lights on or anything. Was the alarm set off while it
was parked? I had a car that had an alarm system like that.

Does your owner's manual say anything about the chimes? (RTFM)

If you unlock the door with the remote and open the door immed. the
lights are still flashing from the alarm deactivation. If the lights
are on and the door is open you get that chime. open the door. turn on
the park lights and see what I mean.

That's the way it works on my 94 Integra GSR with an aftermarket alarm.

the chimes are just a noitfication that the doors have just been unlocked,
If you wait an extra couple of seconds before you open the door you will not
hear it. you will also notice that at the same time as those chimes there
is a green key flashing on the dash...

My 03 Accord LX chimes each time when I open the door, though I do
not have an installed alarm and also wait a few seconds following
    the headlight/taillight flash.

With the headlights and engine off, and the key removed from the
ignition, I think the chime is a way for the car to alert you to the
fact that the driver's door has been unlocked AND opened after the
car has been sitting for a while locked.

When it chimes, I find myself saying Hello to my car in response! LOL!

    Geez,that seems like a real nuisance.I only want a chime when something's
been left on;for good reason, not just for opening the door.

The green key is related to the key immobilizer. I think it and the
    chime are unrelated.
