goodness, sooo many opinions... my s.o. had an '86 accord 'till he
bought his 2002 v6 accord... with the '86 4 cylinder, he changed the oil
every 3,000 miles, fer the oil at 3,000 had become dark... with his '02
v6, we change it every 3 to 4,000 miles, depending upon how the oil
looks, in that if it's still light at 3,000, we wait 'till 4,000, though
even then, most often it's still light in color... neither he nor i
utilize the synthetic type in our honda accords... now i drive mostly
city stop and go miles, thus i prefer to change my oil closer to the
3,000 range, while he drives mostly highway miles, to the tune of 1,000
miles per week... and of course, we use the honda filter, plus the honda
fluids too... and it's fun to do our maintenance, except fer those
micron air filters that we have ta remove sooo much to get to... and of
course, when others, particularly men, see me doin' an oil change, they
offer such compliments, in that even they couldn't or wouldn't do
    their's...

FYI... the oil's color is no indication of its ability to protect the
    engine.

  3. This whole oil change thing is like flogging a dead horse. Some people can
count by 3's and some people can count by 5's. It's what ever you're
comfortable with, be it 3000 or 5000 or 7500. I change my oil on my 03
Accord and my 98 Accord at 3000 mile intervals. I change the oil on my
wife's 01 Civic every 5000 miles. I can count by 3's and she can count by
5's. With those intervals I'm at the dealer once a month for either my 03
or my 98 and my wife's Civic takes a little longer. At about $28.00 a shot
for oil, filter, wash and vacuum it's a deal.

  4. You got that backwards. Under 4,000 miles implies it still has break-in
oil. Change this oil prematurely only at "expense of the longevity of your
    car".

so @ 3000 miles I say to myself "i need to change my oil" then by the
time I get around to doing it, it's more like 3500 to 4000 miles....
so for me , 3k miles is the " mental note to change my oil interval"

My civic requires oil change every 3750 miles. That's an awful number to
keep track off. I do mine every 3K miles, I know when the oil needs change
without looking at mi notes (63K, 84K, 102K, etc).
