I recently purchased a 2004 Accord LX V-6 AT. I've run into an issue
which I have no idea what could be causing it.

After the car sits over night, I back the car out of the garage. I
put the car into drive and slowly accelerate. Within a second or two,
I experience a small "thunk/clunk/noise." This is well before what
you would expect to be the transmission shifting. And, it only
happens under these circumstances. Once the car is warm, I can't
reproduce the problem. If I let the car sit for an a few hours, and
try the scenario again, the problem happens again -- just the one
    time.

Anyone have any clue what this?

(Dave Curtis) spake unto the masses in

Brake pads shifting in their mount brackets. It's normal.

If the noise ever disappears, get the brakes looked at.

The last time it happened, I thought maybe it sounded like the ABS.
So, you might be right! I assume this is normal for this car?

My A4 does it too when I first start driving in the morning. It's normal.
Although it sounds more high-pitched, not really a cluck. I don't remember
hearing it on my '00 Accord V6, but then again, maybe I just wasn't paying
attention and/or it was barely audible.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    ABS Grunts When Doing a

Self-CheckAlso applies to all below mentioned '04 models too.

NOTE: This article applies to ’98–03 Accords,
    ’96–03 Civics, ’00–03 S2000s, ’97–01 Preludes,
    ’00–03 Insights, ’03 Pilots, ’98–03 Odysseys, and
    ’97–03 CR-Vs.
If the owner of a vehicle equipped with a
“compact” ABS complains of hearing a grunt or
groan when backing or moving the vehicle
forward after it’s been sitting awhile, it may just be
the ABS doing its self-check. A compact ABS has a
modulator, a pump, and an accumulator all rolled
into one, and the system is designed to do a selfcheck
when the vehicle is moved forward or
backward after sitting. So the grunt is normal; it
doesn’t mean there’s a problem with the ABS.
You can demo to your customer how this ABS
self-check works by connecting the PGM Tester to
the 16P data link connector, and running the
function test. (This test cycles the ABS solenoid
and runs the ABS pump.) The noise from the test
may be louder than the noise made by the ABS
self-check, but it lets your customer hear the noise
and helps you determine if the noise is ABSrelated
    or coming from another source.

Great news! One less thing I have to worry about. Now, if I could
just get my issue with the windshield glass resolved...
