'04 Odyssey Accident

  1. All -
I would just like to let everyone know that the Ody saved my life a couple
of nights ago. I Tboned a car that ran a red light. I was travelling
approximately 40 mph and the other car was going roughly the same. I hit
the other car in the rear pass door and quarter panel. both air bags went
    off, my car and theirs.
I had minimal burns around my thumbs where the air bags deployed. my
passenger in the passenger front seat didn't fair as well. he had
strawberries on both shins and seatbelt bruises.
I am definately going back and getting another. My biggest issue now is
trying to find a new '04. the wife doesn't like the interior of the
remodel. Insurance is another story. Of course the other person didn't
have a drivers license or insurance.

Isn't it amazing how almost all accidents involve an unlicensed,
uninsured, drunk, or exhausted driver (or a combination of these
factors)? I'm sure everyone is glad to hear you're ok, my family had a
    99 Oddysey, and it's a great car.

I know this is going to sound a bit morbid, but could you post photos
of the vehicle somewhere? It would be really interesting to see how
    the Honda held up.

I'm really glad to hear that you made it out OK. I own an 03 Odyssey
and an 04 Accord. It's my third Odyssey and my fourth Accord and I
    love them all...

  4. I will see what I can come up with. I kind of hoped when I watched it drive
off on the wrecker that I wouldn't see it again. Found out today Farmers is
    totaling it.

I thought the car is always totaled if the air bag is deployed. If would
shock me that Farmers refuse to total it.

Hey Scott, glad your OK. Makes me feel better about my odyssey even with
all the tranny problems. I also agree with the other poster about why is
it the uninsured you always get in a wreck with. Ive beenin 4 accidents
in my 28 years of driving and every one was the other persons fault who
also had no license or insurance. Good luck with your new ody.

Cars are not always totaled when airbags deply. Case in point:

I have a 2000 LX Ody and T-Boned the side of a deer in May 2002. The deer
hit launced my airbags and caused a total of $7000 in repariable damage.
Hitting a 250lb deer is not like hitting a 2500lb car. Nevertheless, it
demonstrated how airbags and crumple zones work together. I hope I never am
involved in a crash like the one Scott had, but I can plainly see how the
engineers designed a very safe automobile.

I wouldn't say it saved your life. you hit someone with your car (a
pedestrian) going 40mph, and they're likely to die, not a certainty
though. i was in a crash back in 2000 in an old car (an 89 volvo340
for your euros there, you know what it is) End of a motorway, I'm
stopped for the roundabout (traffic circle) at the end of the M606,
anda brand new golf smacks into the back of me. Guy wasn't paying
attention. The golf was a complete write off (there was less than 6
inches left in front of his windscreen) my car barely had a dent. The
impact speed was about 45-50 mph.

My personal opinion is that airbags are more of a liability than a
saviour. You got bruising. Your passenger got beaten up shins. hope
they went to hospital, and had a through checkup for clots (thats one
of the major fatalities from airbags, passenger ones hitting shins,
and causing clots, which move to the brain)

I would rather crash in a car built in the late 80s than one built in
the last few years. They deform TOO easily nowadays.
