I was in my 06 accord today, just started driving and my front right speaker
just kicked out. I faded the radio all the way to the front and to the right
and the tweeter in the dash works, but not the main speaker in the door
pannel... guess I gotta call honda tomarrow. has anyone had any problem with
their speakers in ther 06 (or any for that mater) hondas?

    thanks

  2. Honda stereos are especially bad. The Accord factory speakers aren't
much more than plastic film, a little wire, and a magnet the size of a
coin. You can literally crush them like a soda can. It's a shame that
not even the V6 and Hybrid get anything decent. The tuner/CD player is
only 18W/channel RMS and it can't be removed because it contains various
control electronics. The overall quality is so poor that the electronic
noise cancellation on the Hybrid generates a net gain of noise from its
    added hiss and rattles.

You can buy adaptor kits online to replace the door speakers. The rear
speakers are normal 6x9. A replacement stereo can be installed in the
lower console compartment with an adaptor kit.

Honda stereos are especially bad. The Accord factory speakers aren't
problem is I have the Navi system, so I can't really replace the stereo.
I"ll get it fixed under warranty but if this happend out fo warranty, I'd
definetly replace the front door speakers. anyone knwo fi the front door
speakers are component or coax? (I'd imagine it's a coax, but just want to
    be sure)

They're "full range" single driver speakers. They look a lot like a
headphone driver but larger. You'd want a multi-driver 3rd party
speaker to replace them. Feel free to pry out the cheap dash tweeters
and replace them or add a resistor network to soften their screech.

I can't comment on failures, but all the Hondas I've ever checked had
the speakers polarized backwards . . Not sure what that's about. A
Japanese company builds a car and installs a Japanese stereo in it and
the polarity is backwards. Doesn't sound like rocket science to me . .

Do you mean that half the speakers are polarized differently than the other
half? Because if all of them are reversed it would not make a difference.

They're not reversed if they're all that way. As long as they are the same,
they aren't canceling each other out.

The cones should be pumping the bass OUT, into the passenger
compartment, not into the doors. I want to hear the music the right way
round, not impress the neighbors :)

If you had a home theatre setup and the room speakers were polarized
backwards, wouldn't (audiophile) people say you were GOOFY?

  9. The total polarity doesn't matter until you get into infrasonics. It's
certainly not an issue with the factory speakers.

  10. Audio signals are alternating current, changing polarity every half
cycle. Polarity of speakers does not affect "which way" the sound will
come out. It is simply a convenience so that two speakers will move in
the SAME direction, reinforcing the sound pressure, rather than
    cancelling it.
Only the ones who believe that $50/foot "audiophile" cables "sound
    better" than lamp cord.
