    Folks-

About 3 weeks ago I the 2003 Accord V6 automatic transmission 2nd gear
inspection safety recall notice and just brought the car in for service
this weekend, both to have my transmission inspected per the recall and
for a normal 15,000 mile service (the car has 15,600 miles).

My service advisor told me only a very small number of cars needed to
have the transmission repaired for having really worn 2nd gears, and
they were all cars with extremely high mileage (like, 40K miles a
year). He said it was maybe 5 or 6 cars out of several thousand he was
aware of being checked in the local area (SF Bay Area).

He also told me that during the road test my car was having a little
brake shuddering when stopping (which I had never noticed), so he
checked, and per another service bulletin, Honda had authorized free
new brake pads and re-surfacing of rotors for any Accords that were
    doing that.

So, for the price of a 15K service (about 150 bucks) I have a new oil
pump coating my 2nd gear teeth to keep them cool, re-surfaced rotors,
and all-new brake pads. Not bad, and I'd just like to say that it is
possible to get really great service sometimes. Now, the little creaks
coming from the headliner and door seals are still there, so I might
have to bring it in again if they really start to drive me crazy, but
for now, I'm a very customer.

I just had the 2nd gear recall done on my '00 TL. Nothing wrong, so they
put in the kit. One thing I noticed afterward (besides the fact that they
spilled enough fluid on and around the trans that it was dripping on my
garage floor the next day) is that the kit takes away the fill plug.

Does anybody know what the new procedure is to change the fluid?

  6. I was deep in my Odyssey helping my tech do the recall work; there's
exactly zero reason for an oil jet kit installation to be that messy.

    Someone wasn't paying attention.

I also have noticed shuddering on my brakes...anyone have an idea of
what I should tell my dealer on this service bulletin? I just don't
want to get there and tell them the problem and have them not be able
to find a service bulletin for it and charge me for it. Is there a
specific code number or name for the bulletin?

    Thanks

I don't know what the specific recall is, but I seem to remember
someone posting a link here in this group to a web site where you can
read all of the Honda dealer service notices yourself. Maybe try
    Google's NH archive?

It sounds like you got a pretty good deal but it also sound like you bought
a Ford Taurus. Does your VIN start with 1HG?

Yep. Slapped together by Ohio's finest. Next time, I'm getting an
Acura; those are at least still made in Japan.

The TL's go down the same line with the Accords in Ohio.
