1990 Accord - Power door locks

Discussion in 'Accord' started by Eric Drew Hollins, Dec 16, 2003.

  1. Ok, so I have a 1990 Accord EX coupe. 202K miles on it.

This is my problem. My power door locks won't work. The problem
started that it wouldn't work very intermittenly. Then, the problem
became more and more frequent. Then, the problem became that they would
only work maybe 2 days in 2 weeks. Finally, they just stopped working.
Also, this happened with both door locks. If one would work, the other
would work. If one didn't, the other didn't work. This led me to rule
out that the individual switches were dying. Maybe the master control
switch or a solenoid is out? Also, my power windows work fine.

So, I have found a guy on ebay that is parting out his Accord. I am
thinking about asking him for parts to fix my power door locks, but
which parts do you think are bad? What parts do I need to replace to
get my door locks to work again? Thanks.

Does it make a difference if you are using the switch in the driver's
door, using the key in the driver's door or using the key in the
    passenger's door?

  3. Nope. The door locks will not work from any of those locations. The
power door locks are completely dead and all ways of accessing them
(driver door inside, passenger door, driver door outside) went dead at
    the same time. Thanks.

  4. You need a new door lock controller. It's in the drivers door. About $100
new from Honda Parts.com I had this same problem a few months ago and
didn't want to spend the $100 as I wasn't sure if that was the problem. I
got one at a junkyard for $20 and it fixed the problem. No parts stores
carried the part, I could only find it at the dealer.

If your power door lock controller is mounted inside the driver's door
as on other Hondas I have seen, I would check if the battery and ground
connections to it are good. It is not uncommon for some of the wires
from car to door to break after 14 years of opening and closing the
    door.
