1990 Civic Ignition Module Wiring

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Jonathan Upright, Aug 24, 2004.

  1. OK, I just did something very, very stupid. While changing my igniter, I
didn't mark the wires as to which wire goes to which terminal. I only know
for sure where one of the four wires goes. Can someone either tell me (or
point me to a website) how the wiring is supposed to be? I only have a
Haynes manual, and it doesn't give any wiring diagrams. Any help would be
    MUCH appreciated.

    Thanx! :)

P.S. In case you're just joining us, my car is a 1990 Honda Civic LX, 1.5L

    Hey,

1991 Civic LX 1.5 Liter DPFI here.

I replaced the ignitor (a.k.a. "ignition module") last year. Got into a big
discussion about how it works and some of the wiring. I googled and came upon
    the sites below.

    http://www.markl.f9.co.uk/howto/electrical/igniter/igniter.htm (has a drawing,
but probably not nearly as good as that in the next site)

Try especially the link in blue titled "download this zip" at
http://www.gcw.org.uk/rover/igniter.htm . Before you start downloading, notice
also there is a verbal description of the wiring.

If the link fails, email me, as I think I still have the drawing and might be
able to talk you through it.

Got my car running. No more jumping tachometer, and engine runs smooth.
    Thanx again, Caroline! :)

All credit to the author of the second link. IIRC he added the wiring schematics
to his site after he joined the discussion here and people were asking. I
thought this was a nice bit of "community service."

Thanks for the update about the repair and the subsequent change in performance.
I'm always on the prowl now for when I next have to get a new ignitor for my
    1991 Civic. :)

I found mine on eBay for $39.95 + $10.00 s&h. Not bad, considering it was
going to be $89.95 + tax @ Advance Auto Parts!

Is what you bought from Ebay a new, OEM ignition module (= ignitor)?

If so, I agree that's an exceptional a deal. If it's not OEM, that's still a
    good deal.

I paid around $100 last year for an OEM ignitor.

Yep, it's OEM. Here is the link to it. It's the real thing because it's in
my car and working great. :)
