First cold day since I bought this thing.
Temp gauge gets up about 1/3 of the scale.
Heater water valve is opening fully.
Air is just barely heated, lukewarm at best.
The only other thing I can think of is that the duct door is not opening when
the control button is pushed. How hard is this to get at?
    What else could it be?

    Thanks in advance

Are you sure the thermostat is good?

  3. You're saying that you don`t hear the winding motor when button is
pushed? The actuator on most hondas are easy to get to from driver
side. Otherwise you may have too many mineral deposits inside the
    heater core.

Visually it looked goo (not stuck open, for example) and was clean.
Engine seems plenty warm once up to it's normal temp.
Gauge looks to be in the normal range.
But no, I haven't checked the engine temp. Battery is dead in my tester ;)
    I don't think that's the issue.

Winding motor? When I push the button from A/C to defrost, I hear no underdash
    activity.

I have not checked the heater core for blockage, but that's a good suggestion.
The in and out hoses seem to be of similar temp with engine running and valve
open. That is, the return line is almost as warm as the inlet to the core.

  6. Clogged heater duct?
    Clogged bower outlet?
    Clogged heater valve?
    Bad air mix door?
    Bad blower?
Air mix cable out of adjustment?
The `function control motor` -slightly to the left of the heater core
located at this website. A presumably complete pdf service manual for
an 88 Crx, may do for now. If any questions post again.

Look under Heater and Air cond.> Heater >Door Position or illustrated
    index.

Rick and all, thanks for all the input.
I have a checklist to apply when I get home.
    I'll post my findings
