Just wanted to thank "TeGGeR®" and "Jim Bean" for their advice
on changing the rear hub and bearing. The nut cam off with the
first try with the correct air driver.

I did mine and my friends in about 3 hours. While we were at it
we changed his rear brake shoes and ground down the "lip" on the
inside of the drum. We used a borrowed torque wrench to set the
    nuts.

In a few weeks I intend to do the right side of both Civics.

if i read that right, you changed the brake shoes on just one side?
that's a huge no-no. always change brakes on both sides of an axle.
there's always a substantial difference between the old & new linings,
so it's essential to change both sides to maintain maximum braking
effectiveness & directional stability in emergencies.

    Well high-five for that. Congratulations.

Changing brakes on one side only? Egad.

Hopefully he meant the right side BEARINGS of both Civics.

Let me be a little, or a lot, clearer:
Changed rear left bearing on both civics.
Changed right left and rear right brakes on friends car.
I will change the right rear bering on my car this coming weeked,
if one failed, the other can't be far behind.

Don't change the brakes on one side only. That is a very BAD idea. Don't do
    that.

Change in axle sets only, even if it means tearing into it again later for
    a different purpose.

I did a complete brake job on my 1991 Civic last year.

We changed both left and right rear shoes on my friend's Civic.
We checked his front disk pads. Both were OK as they had been
    changed ~2years ago.
