    Hey guys,

We just bought a used 1991 Honda Accord EX. This car is awesome and we like
it a lot. For some reason, the daytime running light(DRL) is on in the
instrument cluster. It's orange. And the actually daytime running lights
do not come on when you start the car. Is there something wrong? What
could it be if there is?

    Thanks

What does your (Canadian) owner's manual say about the little dash
light? What's the mileage, and does the paperwork mention that the DRL
relay has ever been changed? Do the high and low beams work correctly
otherwise? Do you ever get just ONE headlight showing, rather than
    proper DRL function?

I've been thru this with a Canadian Odyssey. . .

We don't have the canadian manual unfortunately.

The headlights work just fine high and low beams. There is no paperwork
mentioning anything about a daytime running light relay.

    We are currently at 173,000km.

The daytime running lights both do not come on.

    Any ideas?

  4. If your '91 is like my '93 as it pertains to this feature, here is how it is
    supposed to work.

If the parking brake is set when you start the car, the orange DRL light
will come on. When you release the parking brake, the orange DRL light will
go off and the DRL's themselves will come on.

Try the above. If this is what you see with your car, then you're fine. If
you notice something different from what I wrote above, then something could
be wrong. Something with the parking brake perhaps?

I assume all your headlights work? Check your high beams in particular as
the DRL's use the high beam bulbs.

    Steph,

You can order a manual from here 1-800-782-4356, or get it from your
dealer. You need to prove that your park brake light on the dash is
working too. Your DRL relay has probably had a meltdown, just like the
famous Honda MAIN RELAY. The solder joints overheat and stop functioning
after a while. It's probably worth about $130 CAN, so you might want a
friend who knows how to solder to take it out and resolder it better. It
has 12-14 wires in its connector, and is probably straight up, when
resting your head on the brake pedal. Don't try to remove the whole
relay, just slip the guts out of the case.

problem is similar to this one: http:/techauto.tripod.com/mainrelay.htm

Is this a Canadian Car. The yellow/orange light will come on if one or
both high beam is burnt. You can simply fix it by replacing high beam
    with new bulb.

    Hope this help!

I had this happen on my Acura Vigor. The module on my car was located on the
right side just next to the glove box. You would have to look under the
glove box to the right (facing the glovebox) and it's bolted to the right
side (almost like being on the right fender). Pain to get to.

I resoldered the joints (twice!) to get it right.
