I recently had some work done at a local shop on my car with 170K
miles. It's uncanny, but everytime this guy fixes something, he breaks
    something else.

We are now in a "he said, she said" situation. The D4 light wasn't
flashing before he fixed the car, but now it is.

The car seems to be running OK, except occasionally it will downshift
during deceleration and stay in too low a gear.

Did a wire just get knocked off? Is this something which I can fix
    myself?

    Thanks in advance

  2. How is the tranny fluid? Make sure it is changed according to the interval
(should be 2 years/30,000 miles) and that it is genuine Honda fluid.

If the fluid is fine, is your speedometer acting erratically? If so, the
problem could be the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

Otherwise, the most likely culprit is the tranny control unit.
