1994 accord LX speedometer problem

Discussion in 'Accord' started by Matthew Brown, Dec 21, 2004.

  1. My friend has asked me to take a look at her speedometer problem on her '94
accord. I have some experience with Hondas--- but all of my Hondas are
Preludes from long ago-- a 1980 and a 1988, both of which had speedometer
    cables.

What type of speedometer system do the accords from this era use---
electronic I would imagine. Her speedometer is acting very erratically and
sometimes will not work at all for short periods of time. Please advise on
what I might be looking at and the basic layout of the speedometer system
    (Sensors, cables, connectors, etc.)

    Thank You in advance,

Electronic VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the transmission, electric
wires to the speedometer. The VSS is used for the speedometer, odometer,
cruise control and for the ECU.
Is the cruise control working fine while the speedometer is acting up?

The Cruise Control does not work when the speedometer does not work. Does
this mean that the VSS is bad and not the speedometer head??

    Thanks for the further input
