Our to-date wonderful Accord, 5-speed manual with 90,000mi needs some
repairs, and we are wondering if the price is right. The timing belt
needs replacing, with a price tag of nearly $900. Also, we have been
told the axle cover is cracked and needs to be replaced at a cost of
about $500. Do these prices seem reasonable from our Midwest dealer
that recently underwent an ownership change? And what is an axle
cover? We love the car, but these repairs and the need for new brakes
make us wonder if we should be looking for a new car.

    NO WAY!

Timing belt and water pump together should not run over $300. CV Axle boot
whould not run you over $120.

Gotta disagree on the "timing belt for $300 statement".

Yeah, two belts under the cover, two tensioners, 3 seals, a waterpump, and
two belts on the outside. That's going to cost at least 600. Now if the
seals aren't leaking and the tensioners are good you could probably knock
    off 100 or so....
