    Hello group,

I recently bought a used 1997 CRV factory "radio only" stereo.
Everything works fine. However, I was curious about something. The radio
has a clock that displays the time when you run the car or leave the key
in "accessory mode". Is it normal for the LCD display's light to be on
all the time when the car is running or even when the key is in
"accessory mode"? I just thought it's useless to have the backlight of
the LCD to be on during the day. I figured that the LCD should only be
lit when my dash lights were on. The rest of the radio's buttons (mode,
rpt, rew, ffwd, 1-6, etc.) light up only when I turn on my dash lights.
Anyone out there still have their stock "radio only" stereo from (I
believe) 1996-1997 Hondas? The radio has amber lighting. If so, please
let me know if it's normal for the LCD display to be always lit when the
clock's time is displayed regardless if the radio is actually operating.
    Thanks for your future inputs.

It's normal. If you've owned a CRV before, you already know about
changing the rear diff fluid. If not, contact me and I'll send along
some links. Just remove the underscores from my address.

  3. Yeah, it's normal. I wish the clock was on all the time without having to
insert the key and turn to accessories.

How to turn off 'Maintenance Required" light:

    1. Hold trip/reset button on dash
    2. Turn key to "ON" or start engine
    3. Hold button til light goes out

Thanks for the info guys. I actually don't have a CRV that's why I was
curious about the radio's functions. I installed the radio into my 1990
Civic because it had a clock built in and had the controls for a CD
changer. At first, I didn't think that it was normal for the LCD's
backlight to be on when displaying the time especially during the daytime
when I could read the clock just fine without the backlight. I just thought
that the LCD light would burn out even faster since the light would always
be on whenever the car was running... especially on a long road trip.

    Thanks again,
    MDC
