Hi I recently, broke the door knob (?) off of my Accord.
Specifically, it's the little piece that goes up and down depending on
whether the door is locked or not - I'm not sure what it's called.
It's not the door handle and it doesn't look like it's called the door
    lock either.

Is this something that can be easily replaced? And more importantly,
easily installed? Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Are you talking about #27 in http://tinyurl.com/2dty3 ? If you can get
your fingers on the remaining piece, simply unscrew it to get it off.
The new one screws right back on. If you can not reach the broken stub,
you'll need to remove the inner door panel which is a fairly manageable
    task as well..

Thanks for the reply; that _looks_ like it, but hard to tell in the
picture. Common sense tells me it is. Thanks for the help!

Well here's an update and a question - I managed to get the old piece
screwed off and tried to screw the new piece on. In the process, I
think I may have forced it in too hard and now the gold screw bar that
used to line up with the hole no longer lines up with the hole.

So...it looks like I need to remove the inner door panel you were
talking about, I located and removed the screw inside the interior
door handle and the one at the bottom of the "cup" handle, but not
sure what to remove next to get this panel off? Any tips? I couldn't
find any more bolts or anything offhand. This is a 1997 Honda Accord.

    Thanks for your help

I did remove the door panel on a '96 Accord once (driver's door on a 4
door model). My memory is somewhat fuzzy, but you have at least two
screws, the one at the bottom of the door grab, and the one by the door
handle. After you remove the one at the door handle, the trim piece
around the handle must be removed. You slide it (forwards or backwards,
can't remember) about 1/4" and then it comes off. Some times Honda puts
a screw at the upper front part of the inner panel as well. You also
need to unplug the connectors to the door / window switches.

The panel is held in place with plastic clips. Start at the bottom and
pull straight out. continue around the back and front edge of the door
panel. When all the clips are out you can lift the panel up and away.
Start at the back. It is hooked over the sheet metal right below the
    window.

There is always the chance of braking some of the clips or the plastic
support for the clips when you do this. On the '96 Accord I was able to
pull off the panels at both the driver's door and one of the rear doors
without causing damage, but on my '94 Civic a couple of the plastic
supports broke. Mot a big deal, but irritating none the less. You can
get a special tool for popping the plastic clips, but the one I tried
did not work very well. Probably due to lack of technique on my part.
