I have a 1998 Honda Accord EX 4dr 4cyl with manual climate control. For the past couple of months, the A/C lights would flicker on and off. When the lights would go off, the fan would still be blowing out air, but it had stopped cooling. I took the radio & A/C face off the dash and made sure the wiring harnesses were in place. I unseated and reseated both harnesses (one to the fan, the other to power & temp) several times. I also examined the wiring to see if I could tell if any of the wires were loose or exposed and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. I could tell that when I unseated the right wiring harness (the one that controls the power and temp) that all the lights went off and the cooling stopped just as before. This led me to believe the problem is in the wiring harness itself, and not the relays in the A/C head unit. Now, its stopped flickering and will not work at all. Only the fan. No lights, not temp adjust. Just in case anyone asks, I did check for leaks under the hood and made sure I had coolant. Everything there is ok. The head unit is not telling the compressor to come on. And its not just the A/C relay button on the head unit that goes off, its all the buttons. None of them work. Do I need to replace the wiring harness, or could the prob actually be in the A/C head unit? What else can I look for?
