    Hi:

I'm looking to replace the stock speakers. In the front, what's the depth?
I couldn't find it in the car manual. I found some nice Polk's, such as the
db6500, which have a 2-inch top-mount depth. Will that work?

    Thanks.

    Hi:

Well, both if you know 'em. :) I'm looking to replace the woofers in the
door and also the tweeters, on the top of the dash.

Another question: Should I bother replacing the dash tweeters? Or, should I
just go for the 2-way door speakers and simply leave the dash tweeters
disconnected? The factory speakers don't put out enough (or at least crisp)
highs. But someone mentioned that having tweeters in the dash (squeezed
between the dash and the windshield) doesn't help too much.

    Thanks again.

do you mean the db650? They will fit but you might need a spacer 1/8 maybe
1/4 inch, but the cutout on the door is proper size for the polks

    Hi:

Thanks for replying. I'm referring to the db6500's, they're the db650's but
with separate woofers and tweeters. Sounds like they'll fit. I'm probably
getting them from Crutchfield, who usually pretty good about providing
spacers and other adapters. I guess worse case I can make a spacer with a
    bunch of washers.

    Thanks again.

the mid on the 6500's is the same size as the coax, and the tweet of the
6500's will fit in the dash

Not a good idea. You need a fairly tight seal between the speaker and
the opening or the sound will suffer. I recently replaced the factory
speakers in my front doors and on one of them I didn't tighten the screw
all the way. It left about a 1 mm gap between the speaker and the
opening. The sound was weak and with no bass whatsoever. Only when I
went to remove the speaker (to return it) did I discover the gap.
Another turn of the screwdriver and the sound is back where it should
    be.

I got spacers (for 6 1/2" speakers) at a local sound system install
    place. $5 for the pair.

Thanks again. One more thing.... Do you know anything about how the stock
speakers, tweeters and radio are wired up? Is there a separate crossover?
Did Honda simply solder a capacitor on the tweeter line? Or, is the
crossover built into the stock radio?

    Thanks again.

    Hi:

Thanks. Do you happen to know where the stock cross-over is located? I'm
going to have to replace them (or it) once the components arrive (I ordered
the db6500's today). I don't know yet where I'm going to put the new
crossovers. I don't want them visible. Maybe either in the door or tucked
    away somewhere in the dash.

BTW, instead of a spacer, Crutchfield suggested that I just cut out the back
of the cup that Honda provides, in which the speaker fits. That way, the
back of the speaker can just poke through.

    Thanks again.

  12. I'm pretty sure the crossover is in series with the tweet, on the tweet
itself..............Been Awhile since I had one out.

  13. The cup keeps rain from getting on the speaker

Well, that's something to think about then. I'll check out how much of the
cup needs to be cut out. Maybe I'll end up using a spacer anyway.

    Thanks.

What about the wiring layout itself. From the factory radio, do the front
speaker wires go into the door then to the woofer and then out of the door
again to the tweeter? Or, Is there a split somewhere shortly after the main
radio harness, with one part going to the woofer and the other going
    directly to the tweeter?

    Thanks again.
