1998 Honda Civic - Window Motor & Keyless Entry questions

    Hello,

I bought my previously-owned '98 Civic almost a year ago, and it has
been a gem of a car. Since the cold weather set in a month or so
ago, my driver's side window has been intermittently sluggish, and
sometimes even almost impossible to close all the way.

My previous car was a 1990 Honda Civic, and although the windows were
consistently slow, I never had an actual problem with a motor. A
friend of mine also has a '98 Honda wagon, and recently had to replace
the same window motor (driver's side) in her car.

I realize I'll have to take the car in to have this replaced or
repaired, but I'm beginning to wonder if this is a common problem for
'98-ish Hondas. My car is in beautiful condition, with very low
mileage, so I have trouble believing the window has been abused in any
    way.

My second question is, what/how much $ is involved in
    buying/installing a keyless remote-controlled entry system for my '98
Honda? (obviously I'm not handy with any kind of car repair or
maintenance, so I would most likely have to have anything of this
    nature done by a professional).

    Thank you in advance.

My '97 Civic's windows are typically slow going no matter what the weather.

Check http://www.handaccessories.com/civic98.html. HX and LX models have
the remote control receiver installed from the factory (inside the
factory stereo) so you only need to buy the remote fob.

If your car does not have the receiver installed, get part number
330-145 from http://www.partsexpress.com. This is a complete keyless
remote system (no alarm) and will interface with pretty much any factory
power door lock system you can think of. I have installed two of these,
one in an Accord and one in a VW. Great unit, and at $39.95 you can't
    complain about the price.

I've got a 98 DX Hatchback, and my aftermarket Remote with alarm & power
lock is a very convenient add-on. I installed the power locks 3 years
ago, and it's been working perfectly since... The entire system cost
about $600 (canadian) which include the two power actuator for each
doors and an Alpine alarm system. The installation was done by 'Kromer
Radio' which is one of the two shops I would trust to re-wire my car.
(the other being 'Number One Sound').

I agree about the power windows, which tend to go bad over time,
especially when the car's past 7 years old. Lucky, for us, the DX has
the old reliable crank system :)

i saw the link the other dude posted a coupledays ago. do you have the type
that slips over where the handcrank goes? if i did it, it would be that
route. looks simple! and $130 for both windows, too. and the company is
    local to me.
