2000 Accord transmissions

I am considering buying a 2000-2002 Accord coupe to replace my faithful 1991
Accord. I think I remember something about problems with the transmissions on
the 2000 Accord--that there was a recall on them, or something.

Is this true? Should I avoid the 2000 model in favor of 2001 or 2002?

    Thanks

IIRC, this recall/issue was related only to the automatic transmissions on
the V6 Accords, and all years of the last Accord style (from 98 to 02) had
these problems, but I am not sure if the recall covered them all. One way
or another, I'd stay away from these models ( the older V6 + auto tranny) -
one of the least "civil" auto transmissions I've ever driven in my life.

    Cheers,

The problem has only been "officially" recognized on the 2000-2001 models,
although the 1998 through 2002 models are all the same design mechanically.
They were issued warranty extensions. I am working through a problem with my
1999 Accord EX V6 auto tranny that has yet to be resolved. I would be wary
of buying a used 6th generation Accord unless I was VERY sure of the
maintenance it had received. Anyone that owns one of these should be
changing the transmission fluid EVERY YEAR regardless of Honda's service
    recommendations.

The transmissions have a soft bearing surface that can cause wear on the
race. Most of these trans will not give trouble. Changing fluid will not
help the wear problem, but could get rid of some particles. If it is going
to wear, let it and get a new trans under warrenty.

  5. Which model of Coupe are you looking at?... I4 (auto or manual) or V6?
    According to this article
    <http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2002-09-20-honda-warranty_x.htm> only
a very small number were affected by the auto-trans problem but 2000 models
have the extended warranty. You might want to check that it's
    transferrable.

  6. It's not a recall. If you don't know why do you bother?

  7. Exactly why I buy cars with MANUAL transmissions.

It seems that nobody, not even Honda, can figure out how to make
    automatic transmissions nowadays.
