Discussion in 'Civic' started by Dave Thompson, Aug 18, 2003.

  1. is 37,333 alot of miles for a 2000 civic LX
and is $12,988 too much? I found this car at local dealer
    and wanted everyone's opinion

how much is this car worth?

No. 12k a year isn't bad at all in CA. In Idaho, it might be considered
    high.
We just bought a private party '99 Civic EX coupe, 62k miles, for $7500.
Now, mind you, we've put about $1,000. into maintenance, new windshield,
and are about to add another $3-400. for replacement of a wrong fender
and light. Oh, and a new back seat bottom that actually locks into place
will be added for around $120.. The car also came with 17" wheels with
new tires and an upgraded JVC deck with amp in the trunk.
Not $13k like they want. I'd offer them $10K, watch them reject it, go
back the end of the month, and if the car is still there, they might
take your offer. If you really like and want the car, it's the right
color and features, offer up $11k.

The used car market has been flooded in recent years because so many
companies are offering 0% financing. Also, many leased cars are being
recycled into the pot. You should definitely be able to talk that
original price down. Good luck. The car you're looking at is a true
classic, IMO. It has timeless looks and is a blast to drive.

    Dave,
Another way to determine what price is fair to pay is to go to one of
the used car websites and determine what others in your area are asking
for a similar model. You can usually deduct a good amount from asking
price as people almost always build haggling room into the price.

Is the model you're looking at a 2 door or 4?

Two weeks ago, I bought a 2000 DX with 83K miles. They were asking $8900,
but since I was a loyal customer, the dealer let me have it for $6500.

37k is great mileage. $13k is a lot for a 3 year old LX. You can get a new
    2003 for that much!

I am trying to sell my daughter's 02 Civic EX coupe w/auto with 24k miles
for $12,000 even. No takers -- not even a call.

Still too much. I would pay no more than 10k.
