2000 Odyssey interior light go off after 3 minutes?

I just bought a 2000 Odyssey and found myself with a dead battery
because my daughter did not fully close a door, so the interior lights
drained the battery over the day. Not why I paid for a Honda!

The owners manual says on page 126 the interior light should go off if
the door is ajar for 3 minutes. That, of course, is what I would
expect. Does that mean my interior light timer is broken?

  2. Should be easy enough for you to check. Just open the door and wait
    three minutes.

I would question why the interior light would run down the battery in
less than 24 hours. If you have the original battery, it may be on
its last legs. If not, you may have another problem.

  3. Most cars work that way. If you leave a door open, the lights stay on.
We've always had to know that in the past, and know to make sure the
    doors are closed.

Read carefully. That is for the EX model. You have an LX, which
    doesn't have that feature.

I have an EX, and the lights do go off after 3 minutes of opening the
doors. However, there's a big switch on the dash that turns all the
lights on, that isn't affected by that timer. My son was playing around
and left that on once, and when I came out the battery was dead. I
plugged the charger in and charged it back up. No big deal. I realize
that with kids, these things can happen.
