We drove a 1992 Accord for 9 years. Best car we ever owned. Only 1
unscheduled repair in those 9 years.

Last year, we picked up a 2001 Accord. It is a more comfortable car to
ride in and has a better standard stereo. Ergonomically, this car is not
up to the standards of the 1992 as far as we are concerned. I'm 6'2" tall
and have a hell of a time reaching the door to close it after I get in.
The standard shift feels like it is too tall and I bang my knuckles on part
of the dash when shifting into 1st and 3rd. I don't know how often I have
cracked my knee on the dash when getting in and when I get the steering
wheel set just right, I can't see the speedometer.

I don't think this one will last 9 years in our garage.

I was just wondering if anyone else feels the same way about this generation
    of Accord.

  2. Falling asleep through Wayne Brown's post...
Well, I've driven my friend's accord coupe of that generation several
times. He is the same height as me, 5'8", and we think this car fits like
a glove. I cannot comment on the shifter, as he has the V6, which only
    came in auto.

I do believe your height is the factor. Which sucks, because there is
nothing you can do about it.

Why did you buy it with these many complaints?

Brian, your comment added nothing to the thread, however, if through making
it, you attained some perverse level of satisfaction, then I congratulate
    you.

    | Last year, we picked up a 2001 Accord.

I have a 2000 Accord V-6 Coupe. Thus far, this vehicle has been trouble
free and I now have close to 54,000 miles on it.

Back in 1996, I had a Ford Thunderbird with a V-8 and that car spent more
time in the shop than it did in the driveway. Example, the day I took
delivery of the Bird, the check engine light came on, and after numerous
sensor replacements, they ended up swapping the computer. My manifold blew
out at 43,000 miles and the engine was never the same after that. Don't
even get me started on the transmission problems I had with that POS Ford.

    | I'm 6'2" tall

I am 6' tall myself and find the coupe rather uncomfortable for long trips.
That is the only "negative" issue I have with the Japanese cars because I
find most that I have test driven to be lacking in the leg room. Then
again, I haven't tried the new Nissan Maxima, so I may be surprised.

I share your disdain for Fords. We had an '85 Mercury before we got the
1992 Honda. That care is quite probably the worst car we have ever owned.

It sounds like we should try the Coupe next time although my wife and I both
love the 5 speed and we would need to sacrifice that.

I feel that it was and still is a legitimate question, though.

I own a 2002 and I'm very satisfied with it of course I would much
    prefer a 2003. I owned a 1996 before that and if the 2002 was
    anything near that I would not have gotten a 2002. I tried a V6 2003
    and it is very impressive.

  10. I advise you to shop around and take test drives in several different
cars. I love Honda cars but if every Honda car presented me with the kinds
of problems you have--I would shop around. BMW makes great cars. I
understand that many SUVs are able to handle larger people and taller
people. I know that Honda makes an SUV but I seem to recall that it is
smaller than other SUVs. They may make a larger SUV but I'm not sure.
