2001 CR-V Engine Noise

Discussion in 'CR-V' started by Andrea & Bill Lee, Jun 14, 2004.

  1. Greetings all;

    There is a noise coming from seemingly inside the engine of my 2001 CR-V
    (87,000 kilometres, 52,200 miles). I have checked everything I can and
    nothings seems loose. It is not consistent and comes at various lower rpms
    (often when decelerating), but never yet at idle. It often sounds like a
    rattling exhaust manifold shield, but a bit less tinny. Perhaps it was just
    coincidence, but it started a few days ago on the first warm day we have had
    this year (above 25C). Possibly the timing belt? Thanks for your input.

  2. Correction. It now occurs at idle at times as well.

    Do the 'lamp check' described in the owner's manual, paying particular
    attention to the ABS lamp. You could remove the ABS fuse for a day or
    two to see if the noise goes away.

    Your brakes will still perform normally, just not as ABS brakes. The
    manual explains why / when you might hear the ABS make noises.

    If _the noise_ happens mostly when turning tight left turns, the
    viscosity of your rear differential fluid is SHOT. Replace it with Honda
    Dual Pump Fluid.
