I am having a problem getting the piston on the rear disc to retract. Is
it somehow related to the emergency brake set up? Or is it seized?

The car has 92,000km and this is the first brake job. The rotors are in
good shape and the discs are just starting to get to the wear bar point.

It has to be screwed back in while compressing.

Ah ha! That would explain the slot in the piston.

    Thanks!

yes, it is an actuator caliper. Turn it back in slowly...
