    Hello

I have a 2002 Honda Accord V-6 automatic which has 20k miles on it. Lately
when I put the car in reverse, I hear this high pitch metalic noise coming
from the front wheels. Also when the car comes to an abrupt stop, some
type of a noise, again from the front wheels, is heard. Before I take this
car to the mechanic, I need to ask, isn't a bit early for the brakes pads
to be worn out? Or is it just about time?

Also, since the car is still under warranty, is it advisable to use the
dealership for this type of work?

    Thanks in advance.

Rather than getting into the discussion of it being early or not to
change the brakes I will help you in determining if they are indeed
low....If you have alloy rims, you should be able to see how much
padding is left by looking in one of the holes of the rim. If you are
driving you should be hearing a sound when you are cruising and when
you apply the brakes it should go away. Make sure you check the front
as well as the back just to make sure it's not the back brakes. Since
I change my own brakes as it is very simple to do, my only suggestion
as far as who you take the car to is that you get OEM Honda brakes.

If you need anything else please reply to this post and I'll be glad
    to help.

    Hope this helps,
    Nick

yes it's possible, My rear brakes were worn out @ 28,000 but I heard
the squeal that you speak of for @ least 6k miles before I changed
them..... I refused to think that the brakes could worn that fast, and
the rear before the front was even a bigger suprise.

I have a 2001 Accord Sedan Ex/V6, so that might be the same situation
in your case. I went ahead and replaced the front and the rear with
ACT ceramics (made in Japan) I love these brakes so much over the
semi-metallic brakes that came with the car originally. I was told
the ACT's come on some acura's so they would be considered OEM parts,
    but who knows....

    good luck

    Hi Nick

Thanks for the reply and yes, this is very helpful. I will check out the
    pads.

The noise that I hear is when the car is de-accelerating due to
application of the brakes and when the car is about to come to a halt. No
noise is heard during the cruise.

    Thanks again and take care.

    Hi Skipnkuf

Thanks for the reply. I had the same impression regarding the brakes
that the car came with. It seems that they wear out much too quickly.
Thanks for the suggestion in regards to the ACT ceramics. I will look
    into it.

    Take care

I have a 2001 LX V6 sedan and my rear brake pads were also shot by
around 28K miles, but the fronts are still going at 43K without the
wear indicator hitting yet. This is the reverse of every other car
I've owned that had disks all the way around - the fronts always wore
out before the rears. Sometimes I got three times the life on the
rears. Is it typical for the Accords to use up rear brake pads faster
    then fronts?
