My dealership charges $26 to replace the air filter and $84 to replace
the micron air (cabin) filter. Are these items self-serviceable? If
so, can someone provide the installation details?

I know Honda does not provide instructions for these items. I wonder
    why....

The air filter is easy, but you will only be able to find the part at the
    dealer.

The cabin filter is a bit more involved, but if you are will to remove
screws and cut plastic, its not that difficult. The filter is located
behind the glove box, which has to be removed to access it.
They do. Its in the factory service manual. You can get one at
    www.Helminc.com

If the V6 cabin filter is the same as the 4, it is trivial to change, no
tools needed, details in owner's manual. Empty glove compartment, release
strut on right, squeeze plastic in back to drop glove box. Filter is in
holder released by two squeeze tabs on sides. Whole process takes under 5
    minutes. Filter costs $16 at
http://www.handa-accessories.com/accmaint03.html . They indicate the same
cabin filter for 4 and 6. Air filter is engine-dependent. I have no
connection with H and A, except as a satisfied web customer.

I changed my original cabin filter at 15 months. It was filthy, will now
change yearly. Maybe New England winter road sanding is part of the
    culprit.

It looks like the removing the air cabin filter is much easier to do
now in the newer Accords than in the 98-02 Accord (guess Honda learned
their lesson). On the 98-02 model you had to disassemble the bottom
half of the dash board and the glove box (a real pain).

Here is the link from the Puralator web site that is for your car just
click the installation link at the bottom....should be very easy to do
    yourself.

Are you sure? My 2001 Civic has instructions for both those items.

Not so, Wix lists an air filter for the 2003 Accord V6. I installed one on
    my vehicle last month.

  8. I took the one out of my g/f's new 04 Accord lx. It is the simply pleated
paper type. I am sure it will last for thousands of miles if I just vacuum
it off every once in a great while.

I think people replace air filters too often when they can be cleaned up
fairly easily. If they get too embedded with dirt then I would say get rid
    of it.
