2003 Civic Si audio in/line in/iPod connector?

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Roger Carlson, Jul 31, 2003.

  1. I have a 2003 Honda Civic Si. I like the car, but it has an AM/FM/CD
unit inside. I want to be able to listen to my iPod in the car. I
used to do this with my old car that had an AM/FM/Cassette unit
inside. I just inserted a special cassette-shaped adapter into the
head unit and plugged the other end into the iPod.

The new car has no cassette player, so that's out. Is there a line-in
somewhere under the dash or under a panel that I don't know about?

If not, does anyone make head units with line in jacks up front where
    you can plug stuff in?

    Thank you.

Belkin TuneCast FM Transmitter for iPod

Now you can use your iPod to listen to your favorite music through any FM
stereo receiver. The Belkin Tunecast Mobile FM Transmitter wirelessly
connects your iPod to your car or home stereo quickly and easily. Just plug
in the FM Transmitter into the headphone jack of your iPod and tune your
car stereo or receiver to clearest FM frequency and enjoy your digital
music with full sound and convenience.

Avoid FM modulation if at all possible. I too have a 7th gen Si and have
installed XM with a PIE aux adapter. As long as you dont have a CD changer,
this adapter transforms the changer interface into standard RCA ins. So
when I'm using my XM tuner, the stock stereo will display CD-C as if it
using the changer. No matter what people say, fm modulation sucks big time
    compared to a direct connection.

  4. Thanks Marco. Yeah I agree, the whole concept of those FM modulators
    just sucks.

Did you install the PIE yourself or did you take it somewhere to be
installed? How easy was it? I see websites where people have
pictures of their installations, but none of them is doing it on a
2003 Civic Si. The Si has the gear shift sticking out of the dash so
I expect it to be a lot more difficult.

    Try http://peripheralelectronics.com/ipod2car/index.shtml - their adaptor
charges your ipod too... it's the cleanest connection I've seen (just for
the ipod). I'd recommend that you pay the $ to have a professional
install it, if anything messes up, you don't invalidate your factory
warranty... esp since the SI's dash is tricky.

    Try http://peripheralelectronics.com/ipod2car/index.shtml for an ipod
    connector that also charges.
