There is a service bulletin (04-027) that describes this issue. The repair
is to replace the audio unit.

I have a 2003 and noticed the same problem about a month ago. I finally
brought it in and am waiting for the new unit (2 weeks now).

Thank god it's still under warranty. Anyone know how much a replacement
    would cost?

I also had the same thing happen - about 2 years and 28,000 miles, into my
    warranty.

I have this same problem, but I am out of warranty. The dealership told me
it would be approximately $1000 to replace the radio. It is ridiculous
that this is such a common problem, yet there has been no recall issued.
If any one knows of a cheaper fix, I would be extremely excited to hear
    it.

  6. Some people in this newsgroup managed to get it replaced for free or for
only the cost of the labour after going through Honda customer service.
And their cars were out of warranty as well.

its not a safety item, so i doubt itll be recalled. the only recalls i
remember are safety related- on my civic, it was the ignition switch,
    and floor mats.

  8. V6 Hondas with the 5-speed automatic were recalled, and that isn't exactly
a safety item. Ford and Crapsler, for example, never recalled any of
their cars that were more notorious for tranny failure than any Honda.
