    I was quoted $250 for a 15000 mile service for 2003 Accord Coupe V6.
It seems a little high. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

What the manual says? can you make a list of what's requiered by your manula
    and not by the book?

  3. It is very high. Apart from oil and filter change, there are several
"inspection" items which shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour... unless they
find something wrong. Many dealers are clinging to an older, higher cost
maintenance schedule. Ask them to itemize what they intend to do before
the work and compare with your owner manual recommendations.

    me??

Those V6 Accords must be expensive to service! My 01 Prelude cost about $75
at 15k and right aroung $200 at 30k -- and on the Prelude that includes a
    valve adjustment/check.

  6. Oil change, balance the tires. Buy a Honda filter and drain plug gasket
from somewhere for a few bucks, and let the corner garage do the work.
    $40 total.

What services did THEY want to perform?

Yeah, it's a little high. Hell, it's a LOT high.

15k miles service at home for my 99 Odyssey :
    5 qt. Mobil 1 = $22.
    1 Supertech oil filter = 2$.

    Total $24.

My friend doesn't know much about car. He just did his S2K 30k miles
service for $500. I don't know why people spend so much on car
    maintenance.

Many dealers add a bunch of items onto their "recommended" 15,000 mile
service above and beyond what Honda calls for in the owner's manual.

Find a dealer or good independent who will do what the book says and not
lard on a bunch of profit improvers!

Certainly not just what the manual says. I'd love to see what they
proposing to do for that amount of money.
I'll say. They saw him coming.

Exactly. Add a tire rotation for good measure, and there's your $40.

    That's all she needs.

  11. Not surprisingly. The proper way to do this is to go into your service
schedule and see what needs to be done. Then make list of these items and
take that list to your dealer and ask him how much to do these things. Many
times the dealer will come up with their own "xx,000 mile service" which
will involve unecessary, profit padding, services.

I've called another dealership and got quote for $180 (tax included).
Looks like the manual recommends a oil change, tire rotation, and a
few inspection routines. Should I just forget the inspections and go
for oil change + tire rotation? Is it worth the $180 or can I go
    lower?

According to the manual, this is what needs to be done at 15K:

    15,000 mi/24,000/1 yr Scheduled Maintenance
    Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires (follow pattern on page 330).
    Replace engine oil filter.
    Inspect front and rear brakes.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
    Inspect suspension components.
    Inspect drive shaft boots.
    Check parking brake adjustment.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks.
Inspect exhaust system. (See information on maintenance and emmisions
    warrenty, last column, page 271.)
Inspect fuel lines and connections. (See information on maintenance
and emmisions warrenty, last column, page 271.)

  13. Yes. Hondas don't really NEED those inspections. However, if you want
them done, do them. But don't pay $140 for the inspections.

The oil change & tire rotation is $40. The inspections shouldn't take
more than half an hour. At $80/hour labor, that's another $40. $80
total. WORST CASE is an hour of inspections, and that's $120 total.

So yes, I think $180 for that stuff is high.

Your manual tells what should be performed. Find an independent shop
and ask him to do it. Or, negotiate with your dealership.
