"Lifetime" often means different things to the manufacturer and to the
owner. How soon do you start getting discount flyers trying to get you
into a new car? And maybe 2x that interval?

Magnefines, like many oil filters, have bypass valves built in.

    "Will it clog?
Magnefine double filtration is so efficient it removes 99% of all wear
metal contaminants. It¹s design holds the majority of contaminants on
the uniquely positioned magnet. Even if the filter element becomes
full, it¹s safety bypass opens for full flow and the magnet still
    cleans metal from the system."

Do a google on magnefine pictures, you'll see one cut open from a
    truck. Dirty I'd say.

i seriously doubt those failures were filtration problems. honda
transmissions were able to manage 300k+ miles on just one filter before
so there has to be some other change going on for that filter to
suddenly clog. my suspicion is a change in material spec leading to
substantially increased wear. filter clogging would be a symptom, not
    the clause.

please - all this is unnecessary if the transmission was built and
spec'ed right in the first place.

you don't get it. you piss and moan, you complain, you deny, and worst,
you make stuff up. you don't /actually/ want "answers", you just want
to remain ignorant. for your future one-way communication needs, i
    suggest you go watch tv.

I was not going to use magnefine, rather factory replacement.
I understand it will have the overflow path, as well.

So the fear about overheating fluid can be erased from discussion :)

Exactly my point... this is not a term which is precise enough to me.

Anything else you have to add in the ATF subject? Or you are done?

i don't know - are you done with your guesswork and misinformation? do
you have anything to add on how to use google?

so a wild underinformed guess at "60k miles" is "precise"??? given that
you have no idea how the gearbox behaves, what the town/freeway ratio
is, what the wear product load rate is, what the filter capacity is,
etc., you clearly have no idea what "precise" means.

Sure, "they don't build them like they used to."

Honda sure was concerned about debris in the system that they added an
inline filter where there was none.

I'm sure factory replacements are fine. Probably just a bypass-valved
paper element without the magnet, like the spin-on filters used on
    many transmissions (eg. Subarus).

Where have I said 60k is precise amount of miles filter survives?
You are again making arguments up and disscuss with your own
imagination instead of people writing here...

so where did you get the number from then, and why is it somehow
superior to manufacturer spec? name your data source.

it's a band-aid, for sure, but it doesn't address the root of the issue
    - excessive debris production. last time i changed the transmission oil
on my 89 civic auto, the drain plug magnet was almost spotless - no
debris. why are these new transmissions producing so much swarf they
can clog a filter in the first place?

Since when guesswork is forbidden on newsgroups??? :))

And what misinformation are you talking about?
Have I inform anybody here of something? I did not give any
advise or speak from authority - nowhere I stated I am an
engineer from honda and what I say is Honda Way. Not even
that I am experienced mechanic! You are blowing things out
of proportions, create some fake dragons to fight with - why ?
    Take it easy...

I said that FOR ME, 60k maintenance is a good place to add this
filter replacement. The reason I think so is that 60k is the largest
maintenance interval on my 04 accord so adding this filter replacement
there will be the easiest to remember.

I have never said or suggest that this is how it should be, or that
this is something I read from Honda whitepapers or anything like that.
Do not remember that you acused me for stating 60k is precise number?
Weak memory? Look up in the quoted text in this message...
