The aftermarket alarms do a lot more then the factory alarm. We only have
the factory but may add an aftermarket one too. The Honda alarm does not go
off if someone bangs too hard on the car or even if they break a window and
climb in thru it. Also, I like when the horn beeps and lights flash to tell
    you it's armed.
W/ the Honda alarm - you can make the horn beep only by hitting lock twice
and you can't make the lights flash.

I do not like the 30 second rule to lock but more I do not like that you
can't lock the doors w/ the remote if any door is open. Someone said the
remote would beep the horn three times if you try. Our 03 does nothing so
you assume it's locked and it's not. Is this an 04 thing?

PS- I do like that the windows operate for 10 minutes after you turn the car
off unless you open a door. I wish the radio stayed on too like most new
    cars do.

Honda does not seem to believe in making anything owner programmable. This
is an area where GM of all companies is superior to Honda. Our 2002 GM van
has all kinds of programmable options for how the alarm and door lock system
works, but our 2003 Honda is take-it-the-way-the-factory-knows-it-should-be!

On mine, it wasn't user adjustable. How would you set it on yours?

Actually, when you press lock once, the lights will flash. Pressing it a
second time will sound the horn.

  5. I don't remember - I've never had a Chrysler, but I did it for a friend on
her Jeep, and I remember finding it in the manual.

The aftermarket alarms do a lot more then the factory alarm. We only have
I agree that the vast majority of aftermarket alarms will do much more than
the Honda factory alarm. My issue was with the dealership installing the
aftermarket alarm, when the car already has one. You indicated you were
thinking of getting an aftermarket alarm, a lot of people do, but you
already have the car and you are thinking of doing this yourself. What I
can't understand is why the dealership would install an aftermarket alarm,
when the car can already be marketed as having an alarm system (from the
factory). Again, the only thing I can think of is that the dealership can
reap substantial profits on the alarm installation by reselling it to the
customer as a hiden add-on. This add-on would not stand out much either
because every other Accord EX on the lot will indicate that it has an alarm
    on its sticker.

Someone wrote (Sorry - I forgot who and I'm new at this newsgroup stuff)

From the hondacars.com description of interior features:
"Door ajar warning: If any door or trunk is not closed properly, horn will
sound three times and the system will not arm"

Our 2003 Accord does not do this. If any door or the truck are open, it just
will not lock w/ the key fab. Maybe this happens if I lock w/ the key or the
interior switch but when I use the fab it just does not lock and I assume it
did lock and set the alarm once the last door is closed or even if one id
slightly ajar. (Like my Subaru does). I did not see anything about 3 beeps
in the owners manual either. I will try the above link though but doubt it
    will help w/ our car.

PS- I went to Hondacars.com. Where on there would I look for the info on the
alarm? I went all over. SORRY if this sounds trivial. I am not a computer
person yet. Trying to learn every day.
    THANKS!!!

    Dold said for all posterity...
In my '03 Accord, unlocking the trunk has no effect on the doors.
The fob remote will lock the doors even if the trunk is open.
