My 2004 5M Accord fails to start at times when I turn the key. Sometimes
I just get an empty click. Ocationally it turns a couple of times and
quits. But when I release the clutch and press it again, it starts
promptly. I do not know if the clutch directly controls the ignition, or
if a computer does this. Anyone else with a Accord 5M have the same problem?

Why don't you spend your time calling the dealer instead of speculating
here. Any new car can have a problem. After seeing all the problems on Honda
cars I wonder where they got their reliability ratings. Must be money as
they sure have major trany problems.....

  3. I know sometimes my '03 Accord V6 starts what I would consider to be rather
hard, but I have been told over and over again that this is completely
    normal.

  4. Mine too (also have '03 V6).

Dealer told me it has to do with emissions. If something is not hot enough,
it waits until it is before allowing it to start. Sounds like BS to me.

  5. The owners manual gives a similar explanation - just FYI.

Nothing is wrong with the trany. I will be one to attest to the
reliability of Hondas. My '88 Accord worked great for 16 years, never
needing any engine or transmission work other can a carburator overhaul
at 13 years. The starting problem is more of a glitch than a problem. It
still starts reliably. The car is perfect in every other way.

  7. Doesn't the manual mention that your metalic keychains with everything
from Swiss Army Knives to pagers dangling from them can cause the
    anti-theft immobilizer to prevent starting?

    Just a guess.

Make sure the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor, and that the floor
mat is not preventing the clutch pedal from reaching the floor.

Since the '03 model year came out. The crank time for starting any
Honda product has increased from about .5 seconds to up to 3 seconds. The
reason is the ECU has to determine where the crank is relative to #1 TDC. Until
the ECU knows, this, the engine will spin without firing.

If you notice the Imobi Indicator (green key icon) flashing, during the
no start, event. You may have a different problem.

Great information! I had worried about this change a LOT, and this
gives me peace of mind on that point. Thanks a bunch!

I have noticed this on my '04 Pilot. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to
start and I let the key go before it fires then I have to try again. I
never had this problem on my '91 Accord, '91 Civic or '98 CRV. The wife is
frustrated that it acts like this. Is this documented anywhere??

When it acts up. It does not crank. As far as I remember each time I
press the clutch until the floor makes it stop. I have not checked the
    mats.

2004, I would take it back for warranty work. Don't even mess with it!

  13. You might want to test jump the clutch switch.

Did you notice the Imobi Indicator? It would help to note the position of the
transponder reciever in relation to transmitter in case it had moved from
    it's original position.

Try jump starting. The ignition circuit may need 12V.
