2004 Accord LX V6 out side temperature gauge

  1. My 4-cyl Accord EX doesn't have the gauge, but someone's idea of using a
digital thermometer with remote sensor led me to:

Looking at the installation instructions on hparts.com, I notice the sensor
is located toward the bottom of the grille about a foot off the ground. How
a sensor, located so close to the ground and so close to the engine, can
accurately measure temperature is beyond me. I'd think the best place is
just below the top of the rear window.

  2. I should add: mounted inside some sort of solar shielding device.

My sense has been the evolution of outside temperature gauges was to
alert drivers to freezing conditions on the roadway. Hence they were
mounted low and towards the front where the heat from the car wouldn't
impact the reading as much. Both my Passat and Honda manuals state
that stop and go city driving is likely to yield an artificially high
    reading.
