    Hello:

Do the new 2004 Accord LX (6 cyl version) have those folding "break-away"
    side mirrors ?

    Thanks,
    B.

My 03 has them, so I assume the 04 does as well.

Those have been standard since at least the mid '80s.

Didn't the 98 models have the non folding side mirrors? Then the 99's on up
    have them?

Yep, and after that was pointed out to me I have seen more than a few 98's
with broken mirrors. I don't know what Honda was thinking.

  7. There was at least one year (01 or 02) where they decontented them, then
brought them back the next year. Three of my relatives bought that year's
    model!

Camry's sold in the U.S. do not have the folding mirrors. In Taiwan, where
Camry's are popular, they have power folding mirrors. Not sure about Accords
over there, Honda has had tremendous problems in Taiwan, and recently lost
all their dealers and are selling direct to the end customer, they just
introduced the Accord over there for '04.

    "Lost them", or "dumped them"?

    Nope.

Sometime in the mid to late 90's, Honda switched to rigid-fixed mirrors for
better visibility (less vibration) and less (wind) noise reasons.

Consumers had a cow. Now, a simple "bump" at the drive thru cost in upwards
of $200...as opposed to a small paint scratch, that could be rubbed out,
after flipping the mirror back out. This was also true at car washes, garage
doors, ATMs, door strikes, shopping carts, ect.

Because of those reasons, and customer demand, Honda went back to the
    folding mirrors.

    Cool. Thanks.

    Last spring I had a hair-raising mirror encounter with a 17 year-old in a
Volvo. I was sitting at a light, pretty much right where the left turn lane
    started.

This young girl (with a nose ring) in Daddy's new Volvo comes up behind me
at a fair speed. I could see in my rear view mirror that there was not
enough room for her to pass me, but still it did not look like she was
    going to stop.

I grab the steering wheel and squeeze the brake pedal, bracing for the
impact I knew had to come. She almost shaves the paint off my car as she
rushes by, and ***WHACK***, takes out my mirror.

I looked, amazed. No damage. It had folded forwards then bounced back. The
Volvo's had folded flat against the door.

Guess what? Daddy was BEHIND her in the mother's car and saw the whole
thing. BOY did she catch it!!

The '98 Accord V6 (the first year for that body style) did not have
the "break-away" side mirrors, a condition they corrected in '99.
Thank goodness I never had to find out how much it cost to replace a
mirror on my '98, which I think is the finest car I have ever owned.

I love my Element, but it isn't a V6 Accord.
