2008 Honda Accord EX-Nav Auto, Check Engine Light

Ok,
So this is a little jumping the gun, but.... I bought a 2008 Honda
Accord EX Navi with V-6 and Automatic tranny. This comes with the VCM
(variable cylinder management). First I have to say that I really
like the car. The looks are great and it's fun to drive with all of
the voice activation and the blue tooth is just amazing to make calls
on. The problem though is that when I first got it, it had the tire
pressure light on... the dealer stated they would check the tire
pressure when I came back in ( I was set on driving it home that
night, learn from my mistakes...) turns out there was a valve stem
sensor that was bad, it was under warrenty but had to be replaced none
the less. Next was on the following day I also noted when I started
it that the VSA and check engine lights were on. I shut off the
engine and restarted it and the VSA reset but the check engine light
remained on. I could tell the car was running a bit rough too.... I
took it back immediately and they found a missfire code. They reset
it and all was fine and the car was back to running fine. Now about a
week later, tonight, the VSA and check engine light is back on... I
did some searching on the web and didn't see anyone else with this
issue so I thought I'd post mine incase there are others out there the
same as me. I plan on taking it back asap to have this looked at yet
again. I'm wondering if the VCM was released to early.
Unforturnatley I don't know of a way to disable this feature...
perhaps a better way to go is to buy the manual transmission so it
doesn't come with VCM... I don't know that this is related yet but
just seems suspicious. I bought mine at Brillance Honda in Crystal
Lake, Illinois. We'll see how they handle this... so far that have

I read where the first year of production for a new model typically has more
problems -- even for Honda. Believe the VCM was available on Acura models
previously, so it is not exactly new as are the tire pressure sensors. My
sentiment in buying a car is to avoid as much complexity as possible -- a
difficult thing to do with today's cars. Certainly, tire sensors fit into
that scheme. Hope the problems get sorted out quickly for you. I would note
that every Honda I have had in recent years -- and that includes a
Prelude -- has been troublefree right out of the box.

 

What DTC(s) were stored?

Also; VCM has been around since '05 on the Odyssey model.

I have a 2007 Accord with the V6 and Manual transmission that I
purchased in February 2007. Yes I know the model is different, but I
experienced the VSA and Check engine lights when I first took possession
of the car. Guess what the culprit was? It was the car's battery that
had a bad cell in it. The dealership replaced the battery free of
charge, and I have not experienced any problems since.

It could be worse though. I had a 1996 Thunderbird that I purchased
right out of college that had the computer die on the drive home. I
should have demanded another vehicle up front under the no lemon law
because I went through 3 computers in the first year of ownership.
Later on down the line, the intake manifold blew and the transmission
started to go bad. Argh, don't even get me started on how many times
the transmission was "serviced" before it went out. To think, I almost
purchased a 2007 Mustang GT over the 2007 Honda Accord.

 

I bought a 2008 Honda Accord EXL, 4CYL last month and hate the car.
So far I have had nothing but trouble with it. The dash rattles, the
4cyl, the new 190 HP version, idles rough, the build quality is not
good and my overall impression is it is cheaply built. I also had a
tire sensor go oddly enough the first day, so must be a overall
problem. No issue with the VSA yet. This will be my last Honda, I have
had 5 of them prior, I am looking to seel the car. Honda is not
interested in helping me, so buyer beware.

 

I would never buy the first production runs of any car, Hondas included.
