Any ideas on how to get more horsepower under my hood? The L4 is good
on mileage and it is good once it revs above 3000RPM but the torque is
low and I would like more punch. What have others on here done to up
their horsepower. Supercharge? Turbocharge? Chip change?

    Ideas are welcome.

  3. So DRIVE the fucking thing. Rev it up! It's a Honda sedan, not a Chevy
truck; push on the gas pedal, for God's sake.

A 4 cylinder Honda engine is an absolute jewel of design. There's not
much more you can do to it that Honda hasn't already considered and
discarded. Oh, sure, you can do some things short term--but long term
    you won't be happy.

If you really wanted more grunt down at the low end, you shoulda gotten
    the V6.

Life is all about compromises. Honda has tweaked the compromises to the
Nth degree on their engines, and you've gotten the best compromise there
is. Go ahead--get a new chip, supercharge it, whatever. You'll be back
here bitching about "I supercharged it and put a new chip in, but now it
bucks and gas mileage is shitty and my transmission fluid is dark brown"
or some such thing. Somehow, you'll want it to be Honda's fault that
you took steps to ruin, long term, a carefully crafted and HIGHLY
engineered system that was designed to do family duty over a long period
    of time.

Drag racers rebuild their engines every quarter mile. Are you willing
to rebuild or replace your engine as if it were a '59 Chevy?

Just push the pedal and get the revs up. IT IS DESIGNED FOR JUST THAT.
It's not a Corvette, which can shift from first directly to fourth gear
and never go above 1500rpm. It is a Honda, which means it is designed
    to rev.

Hondas get started right about where the 'Vette engine runs out of revs.

Are you, like, in a hurry, or something?

Geez Louise, these things stock have twice the horsepower at speed,
and four times the torque low down, of anything comparable you could
buy at any price, up to about 1990. Let me introduce you to my 1981
    Alfa!

You want it to jump like a frog in a dynamite pond, get something with
five liters and/or a turbo, or get a motorcycle, just an engine and a
seat, get you where you're going way too fast.

  5. No kidding.

He needs to drive a nice 84 or 88 Accord. After a few months of that,
he'll get into a new Civic and be astounded at the room and power.
