A friend of mine wants me to change his timing belt and water pump on
his 86 Honda Accord. I have replaced mine 3 times on my own 1993 Honda
civic. Is there anything difference as far as the basic setup. ie.
Does it have a balance shaft belt? Are the timing marks on the pulleys
lined up the same way? Any insight would be appreciated. I've done
some other labor intensive work on civics (replaced a blown head
gasket, replaced clutch, driveshafts etc.) Just haven't worked much on
    an Accord.

Not familiar enough with the Civic to tell you if the procedure is the same for
the Accord, but I have some relevant manual pages online here:

Also, go sign up at www.3geez.com, an excellent site dedicated to
third-generation ('86-'89) Accords, they have lots of excellent technical info.

If the posted pictures are from an 86 Accord, then the timing belt
setup is the same as my civic.

Well, it's for 86-89 Accords... it wouldn't surprise me that it's very similar
to the Civic, although I wouldn't expect it to be IDENTICAL: the Accord has a
2.0 liter engine, the Civic a 1.6, so they are slightly different.

But yes, the procedure SHOULD be pretty much the same. Still, it's something
you don't want to guess at - if it's not right, BEST case is your car will run
like crap, or not at all... worst case you end up with bent valves and busted
    pistons.

Did some more research. A post at 3GEEZ.com had a link to the 86 honda
accord service manual in PDF. FOR FREE!!! Thanks again for the links.

Was that a .ru site with that PDF? I've got that file too. The JPGs came from
    the same site. :)
