88 honda prelude clutch problem

Discussion in 'Prelude' started by Matthew Brown, Feb 7, 2004.

  1. When I went to run an errand this morning, I started to have problems
shifting gears. I turned around immediately and managed to lumber home in
second gear. I popped the hood and suspected a fluid leak, but I do not
seem to be losing any fluid. When the car sits for a little while, the
clutch will work for 5-10 seconds affer initial start. The problem promptly
returns. I am a little perplexed. Any ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  2. You mean the clutch doesn't release? Have someone push the pedal while you
watch at the slave end - you may have to pull a rubber boot back to see the
"action". If it's the hydraulic system, you'll likely have to replace the
master and slave cylinders. When the piston seals are bad, sometimes
punching the pedal, everytime you use it, will allow them to work enough to
get by for a couple of days.
