Picked up an '89 Civic LX last year at this time--and didn't have an owner's manual. Haven't had a chance to order one yet. At any rate, the engine oil dipstick doesn't have 'Full' and 'Low' / 'Add' marks on it. Just two dots/holes. I'm assuming that the dot/hole furthest from the end of the dipstick means full, and the one closest to the end of the dipstick signifies low. Would this be correct? R.M.
Between the two holes is operational range. I usually like to be pretty close to the top, just to be safe.
====================== Make sure the dipstick is 'all there'. I saw a CR-V that was missing the rubber seals inside the metal cowl. It would flop around, rather than sealing airtight when you reinserted it, and also gave a false reading, so the CR-V was chronically low of oil. . . Needless to say, I didn't buy the CR-V. 'Curly'
I'll go you one better... When the level reaches the lowest dot on the stick, you are one quart low on oil. You should be able to safely add a quart. The stick is calibrated that way.
