The clutch in my 1990 Accord (260 thousand km) has always made a
squawking noise(but only sometimes) when engaging the clutch from a
stop. The noise which occurs more frequently in winter( Canadian
Maritimes), is becoming more frequent and is really spoiling the fun
of driving my Honda, which is otherwise in good shape. The clutch
works fine otherwise, just can no longer tolerate the squawking noise

I have decided to have the poblem checked out by the local
dealer. While the clutch is apart I will probably go for a new clutch
disc, pressure plate and release bearing. The dealer is OK and the
cost will be about 600cdn, sucks but the noise has to go
At this point I'm still open to any suggestions if someone thinks
there is an alternative, other than ear plugs, or turning up the
    stereo.

    TIA
    Ken

Have you not considered getting it done by a non-Honda shop? A clutch
    swap is a clutch swap.

Considered non honda shop, but there are extenating circumstances,
and the service manager will go the" whole nine yards" to keep costs
down. The $600 I mentioned is at regular rates, I anticipate the final
bill to be closer to 300-400 I can live with that. Genuine Hoda parts
will have to do this time :).
