90 Civic seatbelt problem

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Paul Anderson, Sep 28, 2003.

  1. My daughter has a 90 Civic that the automatic shoulder harness
does move into postion on, also the seatbelt light and bell
do not shut off even after securing the seat belt. Has anyone
out there seen or heard of this problem and what the solution
    to it might be?
    Thanks

Dealer HAS to cover it under federal law.

Honda has a lifetime warranty for seatbelts. Take it to a dealer. They
should fix the belt but the warranty may not apply to the light and bell. I
pulled the bulb out of my light as it would not go off. On mine, the bell
sounds six times and then shuts off, but does so whether or not you've got
the belt on. I asked the dealer a long time ago about the light and bell,
and I believe I was told it was not under the seatbelt warranty.

  5. Hi Paul,

It is possible that disabling the light/warning systems is a bad idea. On
the 91 Accord (my car, probably identical to yours) the helm book has a
writeup of the system. The buckle that rides in the belt track can not
protect you in an accident unless it is locked at the back of the travel.
The system attempts to "fail safe" using switches to verify that the buckle
successfully traveled home to this spot. If the belt doesn't get there (or
the switch fails etc) then the system continues to sound the alarm, letting
you know there's a problem. So I'm concerned that the thing might be unsafe
if you disable the light/chime without knowing that it is just an indicator
    problem.

I wrote a whole lot of trouble shooting advice to a guy here a long time
ago. It might be useful to you (go to this url:
    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&th=f247975d72903ed0&rnum=1

It's probably more than you want or need, but it will get you started if
you want to debug this your self.

    Good luck,
    Arthur
