90 Civic, Stuck ignition lock, help!

Discussion in 'Civic' started by michael moorman, Jul 23, 2003.

  1. Anyone have any experience with a stuck ignition lock on a
civic, 1990 or other year from that era.

My daughter just called from college saying that she could
not get the key to turn the ignition switch. Tried moving
the steering wheel, tried using a spare key. Wheels are
turned all the way to one side.

I will drive over tonight and see wht I can do. Does anyone
    have any ideaes ?

    Thanks in advance,

Wheels all the way to one side is the key here ;-)
It the wheels are turned all the way, and the car moved backward a little
against a curb after the wheel was locked, it might be very difficult to
move the wheel far enough to turn the key. She might be afraid to try hard
enough, or be incapable of turning the wheel hard enough.

My dad got stuck in just such a spot, and someone else had to help him,
jerking the wheel from outside the car while he turned the key. It wasn't
possible to hold the wheel in that position. He just gave it a yank to
    free the locking mechanism.
