I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX V6 and my Alternator has went. A friend
of mine was gonna change it for me... but after looking into he said he
couldn't because he said you need some kind of SPECIAL TOOL? Is this
true? And.... could I perhaps get the TOOL he needs to do the job?

    Thanks

If the alternator 'went' maybe you just need to replace the brushes. Did
it die slowly, or when you attempted to boost it? A brush kit is WAY
cheaper, and sometimes the alternator is almost impossible to remove.
What is the mileage of the vehicle?

  3. I don't mean to stray off topic here, but are you sure you have a V6?

I believe '95 was the first year the Accord could be equipped with a V6.

    David,

I just repalced my first 1991 Alternator for my son. The special tool I
needed was a deep socket 12mm for the bolt on the bottom. If you decide to
do this yourself I can qwalk you through it. It takes some time to get it
done but will save you mega bucks vs paying to have it done.

    Hi.... thank You.

I am not sure about the V-6 part....

It says 16 Valve.... if that means anything.

    Thanks

  6. That's a 4-cylinder engine, with 4 valves per cylinder. :)

    you would be correct, sir.

they had to completely restyle the front end to shoehorn the 6er in there.

I am going through the same thing on my 88 Accord. Sure like to hear
    the steps. :)

  9. A deep socket is not a special tool.

  10. Hello,

We're trying to remove the alternator from a 91 honda and can't get it to
budge. We've removed the 2 front bolts, that really long side bolt, and
those 2 hose things. Is there a bolt we're missing? Does it even come out
    without removing something else?
    Thank you
