'91 Civic DX -- Wanted: Blue Upholstery Fabric

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Brandy Alexandre, Jul 12, 2003.

  1. Okay, I decided to keep the car. I will be moving soon and was
thinking baout buying a new Honda in my new territory, but there's
really nothing wrong with my car, except for a small tear in the seat
on the lumbar hump that gets the most friction when you get in and out.
I decided to have it repaired.

The thing is, the fabric for this car has been discontinued and we
can't find anything that comes close to matching it. We just need
about one square yard. I know that someone somewhere out there HAS TO
have this sitting on a shelf somewhere. The frabric was discontinued
after 7 years, which means it could have been around in a shop as
recently as 1998. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The fabric, according to the 1991 Leo Book, is #130167.

I have other quirks with the car I might ask about later (horn doesn't
work when it's damp out, dash lights don't work when it's cold out),
    but this is my priority.

    Thanks!

honestly? an iron on patch to stop any further wear, and some really nice
    seatcovers.

  3. That would be WAY too easy. ;) Besides, I'm on a mission now.

Why don't you cruise the CRX forums and see about getting some good used
replacements? hundreds of CRXs running around with aftermarket seats, and the
old ones are in the garage.

  6. Because it's not a CRX. ;) I *had* one, but traded it in for the
    Civic.

Where are you? Try some of the Honda clubs in your area,
I'm sure somebody's replaced a set of seats by now. However,
it seems to be a common problem, there was at one point
3 '88-'91 HBs in my family, all 3 had rips in the seats.

  8. I'm home. On Earth. ;) This tear is in the friction area where I
guess everyone's wallet or big behind rubs getting into and out of the
    car. ;)

  9. Ah the side bolster - quit wearing jeans and it'll get much less
    abrasion.:)

  10. But what if I get pulled over and the cop wants me to get out of the
    car???

  11. Yer gonna have to figure if he's gay or straight and what leverage that
    might bring to the "situation".:)

Alternatively you might consider a nice pair of wool worsted trousers.

  12. Don't go thinkin' I haven't done THAT before. ;)
I'd still really rather fix the seat and call back to my initial post
in which I requested assisted in find discontinued fabric.

Have you visited the wrecking yards yet? If you're hell
bent on repairing it, cut the entire back from a doner seat and
    patch it in.

  14. That is something I've been considering. They're just in areas that
    scare me. ;)

unless its a "pick a part" , full service wreckers will usually only sell
    the whole seat.

  16. Yeah well my son got a ticket on his 2nd stop. My daughter's been stopped
at least 4 times and still no ticket.
<www.hondaautomotiveparts.com> still shows the entire seat-back cover for
~$135. Of course it may not actually be available... or maybe the cost is
    too high?

compared to finding the material, and having it custom tailored? id call
    that a bargain.

now, $600 for a new carpet for a 98cx? thats pricey. i ended up taking mine
out, scrubbed with detergent, and hosed it down. looks like new now :)

  18. I wasn't able to find what you were looking at. I did get a swatch of
the alleged original fabric. The texture and weave is the same, but
the color is really dark. Now, I know 12 years will do a lot to the
color, but even when I dug out spots that really aren't exposed to the
sun it was dark. I'm iffy on going for it now. I suppose I could buy
it and leave it out on the balcony for a month...
