I looked up the 91 Civic wagon on Crutchfield and they only listed 3
stereos that would fit. The cheap one that I wanted was reported not to
fit. Being sorta new to Hondas, I'm wondering if this is BS or is there
something special about the fit that I need to be aware of. I never had
any problem with my Toyotas and I'm just wondering if Crutchfield is
just saying this to get me to buy the more expensive stuff. BTW, I was a
better deal on a Sony at Best Buy and I'm thinking of that one.

it's just a stereo and you have a standard console. buy what you want
at the local home electronics store and have them fit it for free.

Whatever you put in, make sure a wiring harness adapter is used. A 'fit
kit' will also be needed because few stereos will be exactly the same
size the Honda one was. I'm guessing you wnat to play MP-3's so a used
Honda stereo isn't good enough for you? You can use up to a '98 Honda
stereo without modification, except for the way the bracket attaches.

Man I'm glad you suggested the harness adapter. I"m used to the hard way
and this was easy. The guy at Besy Buy also said that I needed the 'fit
kit' adapter, but I passed because I had tons of stainless steel laying
around to fill in for a bad fit. It turned out that the JVC fit like it
was made for the car and was an exact fit for the dash. The only thing I
had to do was make a small angle bracket to support the back of the
    deck.

So far on the car I've replaced a spring, a ball joint, and rebuilt the
head. The thing now runs great with 142K miles on it. I have about 700
on it since the head gasket. Tomorrow is the first big test...500 mile
snowboarding trip. By tomorrow they're supposed to have a total of about
2 feet of snow over a 3 day period.

I should have asked this before: How good are these Civic wagons in the
snow? I'll be on main highways all the way (flatlands, not mountains) so
they should be plowed fairly good. Are there any handling issues with
these cars that I should know about?

Thanks for all the advice so far.
