My 92 Honda accord has a strange engine noise. Sounds like the valves are
not adjusted, yet they are perfectly within spec. Noise occurs throughout
rpm range, quiter at higher rpms. Verified not taking oil
(113000km-compression excellent), so rules out valve stems, guides and
seals, and there is plenty of adjustment left on the rockers. My question
is: Is it possible that the rockers are worn around the shaft allowing them
to pivot up and down on the centers? Is this a common problem on Hondas?

How were they adjusted/measured? Chances are they were set wrong and have
    too much clearance.

Cold as per spec. I've checked over and over again. I noticed two rockers
were slighty loose on the shafts on the intake side. Is this normal for
    these engines?

Yes, but what method are you using to make sure the cams are properly
    positioned before adjusting the valves?

If you follow the factory procedure, it is possible to inadvertently set
some of the clearances much too large, resulting in lots of noise.

There is an easier method that is more tolerant of the home mechanic's
    skills and experience.

Im quite good at feel when it comes to adjusting valves, owned many
aircooled vw's use to be able to do it without feeler guages, never had a
problem. Its not the first honda I do. Its just something doesnt seem right.
Im just curious if bad rockers are common on hondas?

Only if oil changes are neglected.

Now. PLEASE state the method you are using to position the cam lobes for
    valve adjustment.

Almost never do the rockers just wear out. What I have seen a few times is
that people will think that Hondas run for ever and therefore never need
maintained. I've seen a few worn or grooved cam lobes and rocker arms
because people neglected oil changes, valve adjustments or both. If the
lobes and rockers are worn funny, a feeler gauge will have troubles setting
    the lash properly.
