I have a 92 accord (auto) 155,000 miles on it and when I do a
diagnostics test on it I am get an error 12 which is an EGR Error. I
need someone to dump all the info about "EGR problems" they know on
me. I need to understand what they are and how I clean them out.
Could an acutal hole in the muffler be the problem? I have heard that
there are EGR Ports. Where do I find those?

    Thanks

Normally when the computer throws a code for that, it is because the lift
sensor in the EGR valve doesn't sense the valve opening. Could be a busted
diaphragm (check with a vacuum gauge) or a bad sensor in the valve, or a bad
vacuum control system causing the valve to never open. Usually if you have
EGR port problems the computer thinks everything is working fine.

the most common reasons for a code of EGR are insufficient lift, and
reduced flow. it detects clogged ports by way of the MAP sensor, if
there's a lot of lift and no pressure change the ports are clogged.
on one of that vintage you need to remove 6 plugs with a slide hammer
    to clean them.

At the local honda shop, the guys usually just remove the intake to clean
the ports, and don't worry about the plugs.

the ports are 4-5" up in the runners on a 92 motor. on a v-6 you
pull the intake and do it from the bottom.
they certainly like to do things the hard way. Those of us that
do this every day try the easy way always.
