My Son has a problem with his 94 Accord LX which has led him to conclude
that the MAP sensor is bad. I am not absolutely familiar with the steps he
used to determine this for sure, but he went through a prescribed sequence
of troubleshooting and tests based on the error codes and some type of
maintenance manual. In any case, he claims that as pressure increases to
the sensor, the resistance (or voltage) he is measuring at the sensor
changes erratically rather than smoothly along with the change in pressure.

My question is if anyone knows if the sensor can be cleaned or serviced in
any way that might help. He says that a replacement will run from
$250-$350. I'm 1000 miles away, so I can't see what it is, and can't find
any help on the web. Anyone please?

    Thanks,

    Troy

  2. If you mentioned a part that cost $20 to $30--I would probably say--Go for it.
However, $250-$350 is a lot of money to pay for a part that may or may not
fix the problem. The Honda is probably due for a tune up very soon--I
would suggest that you have a professional mechanic do the tune up or have
it done at a Honda Dealership--those mechanics only work on Honda cars and
they know them better than regular mechanics that work on all types of
cars. The mechanic--after he hooks it up to his or her huge computerized
tester can easily determine the source of the problem. This makes more
sesnse than what your son has in mind.
