Are there any tricks to changing the valve cover gasket on a '93
Accord? I've got 128k miles on my original gasket and it's
losing oil. I bought the fel-pro gasket kit.

  2. This is not specific to a Honda, but stick the new gasket to the cleaned
valve cover with weather stripping or silicon, THEN put silicon on the
bottom side of the gasket, THEN replace the valve cover, onto the
    cleaned surface it belongs to..

    comprende?

    thanks

Do NOT use silicone. You will have an absolute BITCH of a time getting th
    cover off again later.

Just clean off the surfaces, put the new gasket in place on the cover and
replace. A very thin wipe of engine oil on the new gasket will help it
slide into any sharp corners you may have.

The ONLY place you may need small dabs of sensor-safe Permatex is in those
aforementioned sharp corners. And even then I have never had to do that
    with a new OEM gasket.

And I would have used an OEM gasket. They last longer and fit better.

  4. Shouldn't need any sealer. Make sure everything is clean (clean all the
surfaces with carb cleaner). Fel-Pro gasket will fit good and not leak.

Make sure both mating surfaces are free of debris, clean, and dry.

You can use a small amount of silicon on each side of the gasket, but don't
over do it! You don't want globules of silicone ingested into the engine.

I personally use Hi-Tact. It comes in a spray, and I just lightly coat each
side of the gasket before installing.

Be careful when tightening the bolts/nuts when installing, especially if its
a cork gasket. they don't need to be as tight as other fasteners...get a
torque wrench if you want to be sure.

Thus spake Andrew on 12/17/2003 11:19 AM:
Fsck Fel-Pro. They blow, and I've heard that from more than one
mechanic. I decided to try to cheap out on my wife's POS Saturn and use
a Fel-Pro "kit" from Autozone and ended up with a large blue cloud
coming from under the hood and a $45 bill to Saturn for a gasket.

Spend the extra bucks and get the genuine Honda gasket. Put in new tube
seals for the plugs while you're at it...not neccessary, but not a bad
    idea either.

  8. Exactly.

You're lucky. Fel-pro inadvertently threw a connecting rod thru the side of
    my engine block.
